Throughout last week a number of children who learn instruments privately or through the Department?s School of Instrumental Music program participated in the annual Music Eisteddfod at the Albany Entertainment Centre.

The school Eagles Cup team have now played two matches following a bye in the first round. The team enjoyed success under coach Damon O?Meara in their first game against St. Joseph?s at St. Joseph?s College.

Eagles Cup is a long running interschool competition (over 20 years) and is played after school on Tuesday afternoons between 4:00pm and 5:00pm amongst 9 schools in the Albany town and nearby. Boys and girls, from years 5 and 6, are selected to form school teams.

Flinders Park is one of over 5000 schools registered for this Government initiative run by the Australian Sports Commission. Mrs Janet Davies is running this initiative for our school and already we have had some positive outcomes for students.

Little Grove Primary School hosted the annual Interschool Swimming Carnival at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre late last term. Throughout the carnival our swimmers did their personal best and demonstrated excellent persistence and spirit against some very strong opposition.

Flinders sent a boys team and a girls team and played against many local schools in a T20 super 8 tournament. Scores for the day were tallied and Flinders was declared the winner.

Special mention to the girls team who went through undefeated. Coaches were Tracey Menegola and Mitch Williams.

You may recall that Flinders Park Primary School was invited to be a participant in a NAPLAN Online Trial that the Department of Education has funded to determine what schools will need to do to complete NAPLAN online in 2019.

Year 5 and 6 classes were fortunate to get up close with a number of fish that are found in local rivers and the ocean in science with Ms McLennan.

Excited students travelled to Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 2 March for the annual Faction Swimming Carnival. The carnival program comprised of traditional swimming events of breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke and butterfly and a range of fun activities utilising teams with the crocodile and whale relay being a favourite.

Students in year 5 and 6 classes recently had the chance to have a very close view of a sprint car and hear from driver Ian Watson and commentator Stan Migro about how the car is set up to drive very fast on a dirt track.
